Seeing Jesus as the Son of God Through His Works

The Gospel of Mark emphasizes Jesus Christ as the Son of God primarily through His actions rather than His teachings.

Mark is not just a shorter version of the gospels but a careful selection – and omission – of material to present the person of Jesus Christ. Unlike Matthew and Luke, Mark omits nativity stories and begins with Jesus' baptism. Using the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy, Mark reveals both Jesus' humanity (showing compassion, emotion, and physical healing methods) and His divinity (speaking creation into being, commanding demons, healing instantly). Mark is action-oriented, using the word "immediately" 41 times to create urgency and propel readers through Jesus' ministry.

Jesus' miracles demonstrate His power over sin's corruption, sickness, demons, and Satan's works.

Application: The gospel demonstrates that Jesus came ultimately to undo everything Satan brought into the world —sin, sickness, death, and demonic oppression. By trusting in Christ, believers receive all the benefits of His victorious work, including forgiveness of sins and eternal life through the Holy Spirit.
