Know Your Goal

In this final passage of Jonah, we see how easily our lives can head in the wrong direction when we pursue the wrong goal. Jonah rejoices over a plant that brings him comfort, but resents God’s mercy toward Nineveh. Through the plant, the worm, and the scorching wind, God exposes Jonah’s misplaced priorities and reveals His own compassionate heart for lost people.

Main points:

- God’s gifts are meant to point us back to the Giver, not simply to our own comfort.

- Our circumstances (both joyful and painful) are meant to deepen our dependence on God.

- God’s mission is bigger than us: He is redeeming people from every nation and calls His people to participate as a kingdom of priests.

Application: Ask God to align your heart with His compassion for the lost. Begin by praying intentionally for someone who needs to know Him, and be ready for opportunities to speak truth and mercy into their life.
